Remember the fun you had on your last beach vacation…..? Who says you can’t have a little slice of paradise in your own backyard? Having a pool installed can give you a quiet, private, personal retreat from the realities of the real world right in your own home. Swimming pools are a great source of fun and exercise and are guaranteed to give you and your loved ones a great time, whatever the occasion.
There are a lot of things to consider before starting your own backyard pool project. It’s important to take every detail into account to ensure not only a scenic look and feel to your pool, but also to secure the safety of everyone in and around the area. Non-slip pool decking is available in concrete, interlocking paver stones and natural stone finishes.
Concrete Decking
Probably the most affordable and the most common type of decking is concrete decking. It allows you to add a non-slip surface to your pool surroundings without sacrificing paying a lot. Don’t expect it to look very decorative as concrete decking doesn’t incorporate very much color or artistic texture to the area. The most common finish for concrete decking is the broom finish which is achieved by passing rough broom bristles over the wet concrete surface to add a wispy, rough texture. If you want to kick it up a notch, you can add colour to the concrete mix. This will help offset the institutional gray of standard concrete. If you want to go a little further, you can add stamped concrete to your project. Additional colour is added with a stamp texture to mimic brick patterns or natural stone finishes. Rideau Pools adds a slight texture to all of our stamped concrete projects for safety. This makes for a non-slip surface which can be a lot more appealing to the eyes.
Interlocking Paver Decking
Interlocking pavers are brick-like concrete pieces that are laid on a gravel base to achieve an outdoor tiled look. Many of these pavers come in a variety of colours, shapes, and sizes, allowing for a more decorative appearance. Although a bit more costly than concrete decking, pavers are highly slip-resistant and offer a cleaner finish and a better looking finished product than concrete.
Natural Stone Decking
If pre-formed bricks aren’t your thing, then you should look into natural stone decking. This type of decking provides a more high quality, resort-like look and feel to a pool area, making it a popular choice among pool construction services and homeowners. Natural stone decking comes in a wide selection of colours, sizes, and shapes, so you can be sure you get unique results each and every time. Rideau Pools uses local Ontario suppliers for our stone for a beautiful finished project at a lower cost.
