Common Questions

What geographical area does Rideau Pools cover?
Rideau Pools is proud to serve the city of Ottawa, Ontario and surrounding areas including: Kanata, Orleans, Stittsville, Dunrobin, Barrhaven, Richmond, Manotick, Greely, Russell, Limoges, Casselman, Rockland, Arnprior, Carleton Place, Perth and Kemptville. We will travel to your jobsite if needed.
What type of pools do you install?
Rideau Pools installs inground and semi-inground vinyl liner pools. The walls under the ground can be made with galvanized steel or polymer composite - depending on client choice.
How do I get a quote on installing a new pool?
Our team of construction managers will visit your yard and take measurements and elevation shots. We will also take photos of the site and house to help produce the 3-D design images of the future pool area. We will have the electrician and gasfitter attend the site to quote these items as well. Once everything is ready, we will provide you with a multi-page, comprehensive proposal with detailed pricing. Once you are happy with the design and pricing, we take a small deposit - and get to work.
How does your pricing compare to other builders in Ottawa?
Rideau Pools has a huge advantage over other builders in Ottawa in that we do not rely on a retail showroom. The majority of our clients are word of mouth and we work directly from our warehouse location to keep overhead low. Remember, paying for retail staff and showroom rent directly translates into higher prices for you, the client. We also provide a full in-house service crew for after-sale service.

You will benefit from our 20 plus years of experience in the pool and spa industry to insure that your project is completed on time to our exacting standards. Your Rideau Pool wil provide you and your family with years of enjoyment - all at a cost that will be easy on your wallet.

Do you service pools?
Yes, Rideau Pools services both what we sell and pools installed by others. Our 20 plus years of experience will give you the peace of mind that your service requirements will be done right.
How long is the pool intstallation warranty?
Yes. We know that superior customer service does not end when the pool is completed. At Rideau Pools, our warranties exceed industry standards. We have a 25 year structural warranty, as well as an extended warranty on our pumps, filters and heaters. We want you to be happy with your investment, so we stand behind our work.
Do you arrange getting the necessary permits.
Yes, unlike some companies who leave it up the client to apply for the pool permit, Rideau Pools will handle creating the necessary drawings for the city (or local jurisdiction) and follow up with them until the permit is ready.
How are pools priced out?
Pool pricing is based on the perimeter footage of the pool. This is accomplished by measuring the complete distance around the outside edge of the pool. Most builders in Canada utilize this method of measuring as it is easier to price newer freeform, lagoon shaped pools. (By the way, lagoon shaped pools are usually cheaper to install than rectangle pools of the same size as the perimeter footage is slightly smaller.)

Pricing can also be affected by the many different design features, materials and equipment installed. Each job site also provides possible variables that can affect the pricing, such as bedrock or water. Let our experienced project managers work with you and help customize the best project for your needs. After each in-home estimate our clients receive a detailed price proposal and plan.

How are rock digs handled?
If our construction manager thinks that we may hit rock in your backyard, we can arrange a test dig to be done. It is inexpensive and provides some peace of mind before you commit to the project. Remember, all Ottawa area pool builders charge extra if rock is hit during the dig. Rideau Pools does not charge extra for small rocks that can be removed with the excavator that is in your yard. Larger rocks, or rocks that disturb the footing of the walls, will occasionally result in extra charges for special equipment to remove them. The fees for rock removal are a rare but sometimes necessary nuisance that is part of the process of building a beautiful, diving-capable pool.
I have a small yard. Can I still build a pool?
Yes, Rideau Pools can take any of our standard shapes and reduce them to fit in a small backyard. Or we will custom shape a pool to fit your yard dimensions. As long as we can get a mini-excavator in your yard (40" wide), we can pretty much accomplish any pool you want. Equipment location is always a consideration in a small yard, so one of our designers will do a site inspection to be sure we get everything in the right place.
How long will my backyard be a mess?
Nobody - and we truly mean nobody - who puts in an inground swimming pool is ever prepared for the reality of the construction process. We won't sugar coat it. It's going to make a big mess, and you'll be pretty shocked when you notice the size of the hole in your backyard. It's important to remain calm, look past the mess and remember that the end result will be a fabulous slice of heaven. It won't make the mess go away, but it will make it a lot more bearable. Most pool projects last 3-6 weeks.
